Liebherr R 9300 G8-E: 850 kW of Electric Power in the 250-Tonne Class
Liebherr launches the R 9300 G8-E, a 250-tonne class electric mining excavator. Following successful validation, this electric version of the R 9300 G8 platform is now available in both backhoe and face shovel configurations, powered by an 850 kW electric motor.
The manufacturer offers two power supply configurations, 6 kV and 6.6 kV, compliant with IEC standards. The stated objective is to maintain the same productivity levels as the diesel-powered version. The R 9300 G8-E therefore delivers the same hydraulic power and bucket capacity, designed for a material density of 1.8 t/m³.
During operation, the electric drive produces zero direct exhaust emissions. However, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions depends on the mine’s electricity source. With fewer components than a combustion engine, the electric architecture can also reduce maintenance requirements and associated costs, depending on the application and site conditions. It also reduces operator exposure to cab vibrations compared with the diesel version.
As standard, the Liebherr Power Efficiency – Hydraulic Control system automatically adjusts hydraulic power to the machine’s load profile. The Generation 8 electronic architecture also ensures compatibility with several IoMine solutions, including Assistance Systems, the semi-autonomous Bucket Filling Assistant, the Skyview camera system and the Data View data visualisation tool.
For power cable management, Liebherr offers an optional autonomous cable reel, designed to simplify cable handling and facilitate excavator movements around the mine site.
