New Production Site for Liebherr Hydraulic Cylinders
Liebherr-Components Kirchdorf GmbH has completed a major modernization project at its Oberopfingen site in Germany, strengthening the Liebherr Group’s hydraulic cylinder production capacity.
Production Consolidation
The project aimed to centralize all activities of the subsidiary at a single location. Until now, key expertise such as mechanical machining was split between Oberopfingen and the historic Kirchdorf an der Iller site, which had reached its capacity limits. At the same time, growing demand has driven a sharp increase in hydraulic excavator assembly volumes.
Launched in late 2022, the project expanded the Oberopfingen facility by more than 46,000 square metres. The extension includes three new production halls and two buildings dedicated to administrative services. Significant investments were also made in industrial equipment, with more than 20 new machines installed to boost productivity and operational efficiency.
A Strong Focus on Sustainability
The expansion is supported by an advanced energy management system compliant with DIN EN ISO 50001 standards. It controls a heat pump and a rooftop photovoltaic installation made up of 1,768 solar panels, generating nearly all of the site’s electricity needs. Additional measures include enhanced thermal insulation, heat recovery systems, and optimized water management through recycling, treatment and reduced evaporation, underscoring Liebherr’s commitment to eco-responsible industrial development.
