KOBELCO Announces Leadership Transition

KOBELCO Construction Machinery Europe BV (KCME) announces a planned change in leadership. After more than a decade with the company, Mr. Makoto Kato has completed his tenure as Managing Director and Excavator Division Director. Mr. Takemichi Hirakawa has assumed the role effective January 1, 2026.

During his 13 years at the helm, Mr. Kato played a key role in building KCME’s European operations, including the recent move to a new headquarters and technology center in Lelystad. As the founder of KCME in Europe, he helped establish the company’s presence and structure across the region.

“It has been a privilege to lead KCME over the past years,” said Makoto Kato. “Together with our teams and partners, we have built a strong foundation for long-term development in Europe.”

Mr. Takemichi Hirakawa joined KCME in July 2025, following his role as Managing Director and CEO of KOBELCO Construction Equipment India Pvt. Ltd. Commenting on the transition, he said: “I would like to thank Mr. Kato for his commitment and contribution to KCME. I am pleased to take on this responsibility and to continue working with the European team to support the next phase of the company’s development.”
